QuickBooks Payroll Error PS038: Complete 2026 Fix for Stuck Paychecks
QuickBooks Payroll Error PS038 usually occurs when one or more paychecks remain stuck with an “Online to Send” status. This can prevent payroll processing and stop QuickBooks Desktop from downloading payroll tax-table updates. Intuit’s updated 2026 guidance recommends keeping QuickBooks Desktop current, creating a recent company-file backup, and sending payroll or usage data first. If the error remains, identify the affected paychecks through the Find tool and run Verify Data followed by Rebuild Data. You may then need to toggle each stuck paycheck by temporarily adding and removing the last earnings item without changing tax amounts or net pay. Finally,…

Please try to keep the payroll support team in US
Please keep your payroll support team in US location, it's much easier and fast to solve the payroll problems because they have more professional experience with US tax issues.
We had a small issue with our payroll today, your support team (outside US office) told us that it may require 15 days to make the correction. However, we were able to transferred call to your US office with Shawntia (case#15141263130), she resolved this issue within just five minutes. We deeply appreciate the prompt action and professionalism demonstrated by your US Office team!!! Thanks.1 vote -
Payroll - Paid Time Off for tipped employees.
Paid Time Off for Tipped Employees.
By law PTO must be paid at minimum wage for tipped employees that typically make less than minimum wage. I would recommend a $/hour field per employee when setting up a PTO policy.
Example: Sally makes $9/hour bartending. QB will only allow me to pay her $9/hour for PTO time requested, however the law says i have to pay her $15 (min wage). If i could designate what her PTO earning should be ($15), it would make life a WHOLE lot easier!!!!!!1 vote -

Please allow us to change classes on past payroll transactions. This would be very helpful as we need to modify employee payroll for specific grants, programs, etc.

Online payroll
I've been working for a week now to get payroll to calculate my taxes properly in Washington. First it wouldn't calculate the Washington cares tax. Every time I called in they said well you've overpaid so it's not going to calculate Washington Care's tax. However I have not overpaid I've underpaid and I need to pay the tax. Someone finally fixed the Washington cares tax now in Washington L&I won't calculate. This has been extremely frustrating the fact that I am paying them to do this and it's taken me at least 10 hours of my time it's not worth…

Dual Pay Rates for Salaried Employees: Salaried & Hourly Job One Employee
Introduce a feature that allows salaried employees to have a primary salaried rate while also being able to set additional pay rates for specific roles (e.g., Hourly - Events, Hourly - Teacher, Hourly - Second Job). This enhancement would enable businesses to accurately capture the various roles and associated pay for employees who work multiple positions without needing to switch their classification from salaried to hourly.
Benefits:
Simplified Payroll Management: Employers can easily track and manage different pay rates for the same employee without changing their primary status.
Accurate Time Tracking: Employees can log hours for additional roles while maintaining…

Allow for automated taxes and forms on specific State accounts, rather than blanket ‘on’ or ‘off’ for ALL State taxes and forms.
Allow for automated taxes and forms on specific State accounts, rather than blanket ‘on’ or ‘off’ for all State taxes and forms. Currently, the Montana Unemployment Admin Tax is calculating incorrectly for Reimbursable Employers. However, automated Taxes and forms cannot be turned for only the Montana Unemployment related taxes and forms. Rather automated taxes and forms has to be turned off for ALL Montana payroll taxes and forms, including Income Tax Withholding. This is incredibly inefficient, we are wanting to use the automated taxes and forms for as many State accounts as possible, however the system limitations do not make…

Allow for the correct calculation of Montana Unemployment Admin Tax for Reimbursable Employers
Currently there is a system limitation that will not allow Montana Unemployment reimbursable employers to utilize automated payments and filings due to the fact that the calculation for the MT UI Admin Tax includes the taxable wage base. This is incorrect - for the State of Montana, reimbursable accounts do not have a taxable wage base and must pay tax on total wages. For reimbursable employers, any of their employees that earn more than the taxable wage base ($43,000 in 2024) the MT UI Admin Tax will stop calculating after wages surpass $43,000 and any associated quarterly reports and tax…

Payment description in contractor direct deposit emails
Regarding direct deposit payments to contractors, it would be nice if the auto-generated email that is sent after a payment included the payment description. We often pay multiple invoices with one payment, and it would beneficial if the contractor could reference which invoices were paid via the email that is sent.

I need a Payroll Deductions/Contributions Report with more Customization options.
I need a payroll deductions/contributions report that has the ability to
1) be listed by employee, and
2) allow accounts to be included/excluded.
Example - I want to look at all non-tax deductions and contributions that my employees and the company make including retirement and insurance, as well as an after tax deduction that we hold and payout for participating employees.1 vote -
QBO Payroll When UA is not required by employer
We are using QBO Payroll e services that automatically files and pays payroll taxes. However, we are a church and in Michigan, churches are not required to get a UA number and they are not even required to file an appliction to get an exemption. It is automatically exempt from fileing and paying. We have proved this to QBO Payroll, yet the app insists that we need to finish our setup by putting in a UA number. The program needs to have a box that allows us to state that we are not required to have a UA number and…

Allow testing Payroll API
I'm trying to integrate with the Payroll API and the documentation is a bit lacking. I've managed to setup the Postman collection as per: https://developer.intuit.com/app/developer/qbo/docs/workflows/integrate-with-payroll-api/get-started
I have the normal API collection along with normal auth working, but for Payroll I can't create an Auth token because my Sandbox company does not have Payroll enabled (it gives me an error that the payroll scope isn't supported because payroll is not enabled).
I can't enable Payroll on my Sandbox company (it just fails to load the page) and the docs do mention that there is currently no sandbox support for Payroll.
Which…

What to Do When Getting Payroll Error PS038 In QuickBooks Desktop after new update?
