How can I easily solve MSG files not opening in Outlook?
If you are experiencing issues with opening MSG files in Outlook, it could be due to a damaged Extend.dat file. Here are a few easy steps you can use to have Outlook recreate the file:
- First, you will want to make sure that Outlook and any other open application is closed.
- Next, press Windows Key + E to open the File Explorer. In the search box, search for "extend.dat."
- Rename the extend.dat file you found, by selecting it and pressing F2, then changing it to "extend.old."
- Finally, restart Outlook and try to open your MSG file again.
If your extend.dat file has been updated, you should not have problems opening MSG files with Outlook. If the proceedures above do not resolve the problem, you can try MacSonik MSG Viewer which does allow users to preview data files in a hierarchical folder. The good news is that there is no data file limitation when using this software.
