Best practices for categorizing small, irregular ad or affiliate income
Hi everyone,
I manage a small content-based website and use QuickBooks to track expenses, hosting costs, and small recurring payments related to the project. Most of it is straightforward, but I’ve run into a bit of confusion around categorizing and reconciling micro-transactions and ad-related income.
In my case, the site is niche-focused (gaming content), so income doesn’t always come in clean monthly invoices — sometimes it’s smaller amounts spread across platforms or ad networks. For example, one of the sites I manage is a gaming-related project similar to this one:

What I’m trying to figure out is:
Best practices for categorizing small, irregular ad or affiliate income
Whether it’s better to group these under a single income account or keep them separated by platform
How people usually handle reconciliation when payouts don’t perfectly match daily earnings reports
Any QuickBooks features or workflows that make this easier for content or digital-only businesses
I’m sure a lot of people here manage blogs, apps, or small websites, so I’d love to hear how you structure things in QuickBooks to keep reports clean without overcomplicating everything.
Thanks in advance — appreciate any tips or real-world setups that have worked well for you.
