The EU has fined Apple $2 billion for anti-competitive practices in its App Store.
European Union regulators have fined Apple €1.84 billion (about $2 billion or Rs 16,568 crore) for its App Store policies, which prevented music services from promoting cheaper subscription offers outside the App Store.
The EU Commission announced the decision on Monday following a thorough investigation into Apple’s practices related to music streaming apps. Margrethe Vestager, the Executive Vice-President in charge of competition policy, criticized Apple, saying, “For a decade, Apple abused its dominant market position by restricting developers from informing consumers about cheaper music services available outside its ecosystem, violating EU antitrust rules.”
