make partial payments to an invoice

Please allow for us to choose a deposit amount nice and easy in QuickBooks on the invoice edit screen, so it only shows the deposit requested at first to the client. We keep getting paid in full because clients don't read and then they want a refund that costs us money. I came from Square and they have this, with many options. I need this to stay with your baked in service and not go back. It's been a pain, and clients are not happy with us because of this.

Yes, you can do this but it IS NOT intuitive, I have to explain this to customers all year long, I even added steps on how to make partial payments in the email but few people read it, they just click and then don't pay, when they can't figure out how to update the amount. Then we play phone tag and then I have to walk them through it. Not a problem if all your customers are businesses but if not then this is a weekly problem for me. Such an easy thing to fix, 4 years and nothing!
This is so costly, to fix on my side, have to pay another company that integrates with QuickBooks. I have been looking for Quickbook alternatives, I am still here because more + than - but this problem costs me more than my QuickBooks subscription does!

The problem is the non-intuitive user interface and the barely noticeable pencil icon to the right of the amount field.

In order to pay for services rendered if happy with the results of service

This is already doable.

I make partial payments all the time. There is an invoice that comes to me and my ex, I adjust the amount to be half and pay it, and then she pays the other half.

Paying part would be great

The vendor told me I could pay 1/2 by clicking on the dollar amount - I did that and the entire balance was paid and wasn't even given an option to pay part of the bill and then couldn't go back to cancel the payment. You should at least get a 2nd screen to make sure everything is okay.

Typically you just change the amount in the payment field.

Invoice shows the price if paid within 3 days (10% discount) I'd be more comfortable if I could specify the amount of payment reflecting the discount.

I tried this Edward and it did not work, I did a test invoice and try to partial pay. When I clicked on balance showing, it paid just that. There was no option to change amount.

I just made a partial payment to a test invoice. You simply have to click on the dollar amount. It will allow you to change the amount to whatever you wish. And then, it will show you the outstanding amount as well.
