1kW Wind vs Solar: Which Is More Cost-Effective?
When comparing a 1kW wind turbine with a 1kW solar panel setup in India, solar usually wins in terms of cost-effectiveness. Here's why: solar power is more predictable and efficient in most parts of the country. A 1kW solar system can generate about 4 to 5 units of electricity per day on average, depending on the sunlight, while a 1kW wind turbine needs steady wind to match that output—and not all areas have enough wind.
In terms of cost, a 1kW solar setup (with panels, inverter, and basic installation) might cost ₹60,000 to ₹90,000. A wind setup, on the other hand, often goes over ₹1.5 lakh when you add tower, batteries, and other components.
Also, solar panels require very little maintenance. Wind turbines have moving parts that can wear out, so they may need more regular servicing. And unless you're in a coastal, hilly, or open plain area, your wind potential may not be enough.
So, unless you live in a windy region with limited sunlight, solar is likely the better option for most users. It’s cheaper to install, gives more consistent power, and pays back your investment faster.
