looking for a recommendation for a budget GPS or iphone app for mountain bike trails
I would like to have a good quality GPS on a budget for exploring mountain bike trail systems so I know where I am and where to turn. Tracking is not that important to me, or other buzzes and whistles. A huge screen is not that important to me, but large enough so I can see things from a handlebar mount. I would like to be able to use it at night when I ride at night with a headlight. I don't want some kind of monthly subscription for maps, if i can prevent it. I suppose it would be nice to be able to upload maps to it without having to tether it to a computer...but I assume those units are pricier and have wifi or something. I would also consider using my iphone with a garmin mount case so if you can recommend an app as opposed to a GPS unit, I'm all ears. I wouldn't be using my phone or a GPS for every ride...like once I get to know a new trail system and know my way around, I won't use the GPS or phone again until I need it for a new trail system I've never been to before.
Thanks!

Hey there! If you're looking for a budget-friendly GPS or app for mountain biking, Trailforks and Gaia GPS are both great options. Trailforks has helpful features like trail conditions and user reviews, while Gaia GPS lets you download maps for offline use. The Garmin Edge 130 is a solid choice if you prefer a dedicated GPS unit. And hey, check out Smart Engines OCR https://smartengines.com/ . It's a handy app for capturing text and barcode info on the go. Happy biking!
