I ran into the same headache and what saved my sanity was switching to a private browser window before trying anything else. It cuts out so much weird cached stuff. I also found that turning off any password manager auto-fill stopped the login loop in its tracks. Could be worth tossing that into the guide since folks rarely think their add-ons might be the troublemaker.

Sometimes the setup can act a bit moody, so I usually double check that I typed the code exactly as printed, especially the middle numbers where my eyes like to play tricks on me. If the screen seems stuck, a quick restart of the app has saved my sanity more than once. And if all else fails, talking to a human on the support line has cleared things up fast for me.
