QuickBooks Desktop Help
Trying to open our shared company file from my laptop this morning and getting "QuickBooks Error H303." The weird part is it was working fine yesterday from this exact same laptop. Our host computer (my bookkeeper's desktop) seems fine, she can open the file no problem.
Any idea what's going on? Not super technical so bear with me.

No worries, I'll keep this simple. Since your bookkeeper's computer opens the file fine, the problem is specifically with your laptop's connection to her computer over the network — H303 usually means your laptop lost its "hosting" connection to the file.
Since it worked yesterday from the same laptop, most likely something small changed overnight — a Windows update, a network reconnect, or your laptop's IP address changed (common if you're on Wi-Fi and it reconnected after being off).
Try these in order — no tech background needed:
Restart your laptop. Sounds basic, but this fixes it more often than you'd think — especially if it's a network/IP hiccup.
Check you're on the same Wi-Fi/network as your bookkeeper's desktop — not accidentally switched to a guest network or a different Wi-Fi.
Reopen QuickBooks and try the file again — sometimes yesterday's session just didn't close cleanly.
Ask your bookkeeper to briefly close and reopen the company file on her end — this refreshes the hosting connection.
If it still fails, open QuickBooks Tool Hub on your laptop → Network Issues tab → run the network diagnostic tool. It's built to catch exactly this kind of dropped connection.
