While it is often feasible to get many slices from a single brain area of one animal (e.g., eight or more slices of 400 μm thickness from the Slice Master mouse hippocampus), traditional brain slice systems typically allow for recording from just one or two brain slices simultaneously (Haas et al., 1979). The capability to concurrently record from many brain slices would enhance tissue use from animals and increase data quality by allowing control and treatment groups to be integrated within the same experimental framework.
